On June 21, 1987, God sent forth another laborer into His harvest. Obeying the call of God, Elder Bobby Sledge, taking with him only his wife, Amosene and their two children, Christopher and Candace, stepped out on faith and founded the Victory Church Of God In Christ, Inc.

Victory Church of God In Christ began as a mission in Madison, Alabama in a small two-room suite in Miller Plaza. In 1988, Victory Church of God In Christ was organized as a church in Jurisdiction I of the state of Alabama under the auspices of Bishop 0. L. Meadows, Jurisdictional Prelate. The church moved the following year to a larger suite in that Plaza. The members of Victory witnessed countless miracles during their stay in the City of Madison. The Lord continuously confirmed his words with signs following.

Since it’s inception, Victory has organized and participated in various programs to meet the need of everyone it came in contact with. In an effort to reach as many people as possible with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Victory began the “Bread of Life” television ministry in 1989 on the Victory Network. This outreach ministry continued for four years.

While leasing a place of worship, it was the endeavor of the Pastor, officers, and members to purchase an edifice that would accommodate the complete vision and commission of the ministry— to spread the Gospel to as many souls as possible to provide Christian education at all levels of learning and to minister to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of everyone it could reach.

Over the next few years, the church grew rapidly, and in 1994, God blessed the ministry to purchase property in Gurley, Alabama. The property consisted of three and one half acres of land and eighteen thousand square feet of facility.

There, the ministry flourished, and in 1997, the Lord revealed to Pastor Sledge that it was time for the ministry to move to the inner city of Huntsville, Alabama. In the latter part of 1998, While in Gurley, Pastor Sledge continued to pray for the complete vision of the ministry. After much fasting and praying it was impressed in his spirit that the name of the church reflect the vision, thus the name was officially changed to VICTORY WORLD OUTREACH MINISTRIES, INC. in early 1999.

In April of 1999, Pastor Sledge began the “Voice of Victory” radio ministry on WLOR as an avenue to encourage the saved and reach the un-churched.

On October 13, 1999, the vision of the inner city ministry became a reality, as the first service in Huntsville was held in Pastor Sledge’s old neighborhood, at the ministry’s new location at 4901 North Memorial Parkway, adjacent to Alabama A& M University.

The ministry was blessed at this location also, and grew to house several outreach ministries, including God’s Creations Child Development Center, a state licensed daycare center which served children ages 6 weeks to 12 years. The membership spent four exciting power packed years at this location watching the church grow by leaps and bounds. Many church organizations and auxiliaries were formed, Many miracles were witnessed.

However, God was not finished with His plan for Victory, and in 2003, the ministry was led by the hand of God under the direction of Pastor Sledge to move from its location into the divine hand and plan of God. God’s plan led the ministry on a journey of a test of faith for the next two years. During this time of proving, the ministry held services at two temporary locations, while holding fast to the promises of God and the written vision of ministry. Ultimately, Victory returned victoriously back to the location that God ordained, poised, ever vigilant and motivated to impact the world for Jesus Christ.

Ministry has continued with joy and excitement as the Lord has led this membership step by step and allowed them to be blessed by the right hand of his righteousness. The Lord has met them in every service and poured out blessings upon his people. The Church is steadily growing and experiencing a greater outpour of the anointing as Dr. Sledge and others minister weekly. VWO membership anxiously awaits, as they continue in fasting and prayer for direction from their God lead leadership, that will propel them into their next level of ministry.

Victory World Outreach Ministry is determined to make full proof of its ministry, and as pastor, officers and members walk in obedience to Christ the church is destined to make an unforgettable impact on this world.

From its humble beginnings, VWO has strived to remain true to God’s calling for them. They’ve sought to be willing to step out in visionary faith and take risks for God, and He has blessed them for that. In looking back at their journey, they can clearly see God at work. This gives them hope for the future and inspires them to continue to seek to impact the world with the message of Jesus Christ.
